Transcantábrico was inaugurated in 1983 in Leon, renovated in 2000, and then completely overhauled in 2011 to become El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo, one of the most exclusive and luxurious trains in the world. Since then, regular & painstaking renovations maintain high standards. Being designed for a narrow-gauge railway, El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo travels through otherwise inaccessible terrain. This enables you to enjoy nature in all its splendour, from high mountains to the Cantabrian coast, passing through valleys and along riverbanks. An unforgettable trip full of glamour, scenery, culture, and beauty.

The train
Those who board El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo travel back in time to the 1920s, when the historic Pullman cars that are now its lounges were first in service. Together with the suites, they make up an authentic five-star hotel on rails, with attentions and comforts that satisfy the most demanding expectations.
The entire train, both rooms and common areas, are connected internally, allowing free passage of passengers.
Grand Luxury Suite
Spacious suites decorated in wood, distributed in living room, bedroom and private bathroom, and adorned with exclusive details.
Its ample space allows you to enjoy a comfortable double bed (1.50 m x 2.00 m) or twin single beds (0.80 m x 2.00 m), wardrobe, luggage rack, desk, safe and minibar, as well as the most advanced comfort with LED screens, music tuner, adjustable air conditioning, multimedia computer with free Internet connection and interior telephone.
They also have a living room with a sofa bed, large windows and their own spacious and comfortable bathroom with hydro-massage shower/steam sauna, hairdryer and a varied set of first class welcome articles.
Lounge cars
The lounges of El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo are original 1923 Pullman cars, authentic jewels of historical railway heritage, specially decorated and set for this train, including a glassed-in panoramic lounge.
In these common areas, à la carte breakfasts and lunches or dinners prepared by our chef are served daily. The bar car is open from early in the morning until the early hours of the morning and a 24-hour on-call customer service is available. The tea room or panoramic car, the bar, the restaurant lounges or the pub car, where parties, music or live performances are offered every night, complete a great offer of luxury.
Life on board
Imagine a luxury train in which you canenjoy and relaxfor eight days and seven nights, making it your lounge, your transport, your meeting place, your restaurant, your room or your dance floor. Where every day you will wake up in a different place with unique landscapes from the comfort of your suite or any of our evocative lounges.
During the day, when we will be making our visits, we recommend comfortable clothing and footwear. In the evening, you can opt for more formal attire. To enter the Casino de Santander on the routes that include it, it is necessary to dress elegantly (no suit or tie is required, but it is forbidden to enter in shorts or trainers).
After dinner, you can enjoy an evening of entertainment. Every evening there are live performances or dancing on board. You can also choose to have a quiet drink in one of the lounge cars, go for a stroll around the town or retire to the privacy of your suite earlier in the day. To make it easier to rest, once the day is over, the train remains stationary at the station overnight.
The journey on El Transcantábrico Gran Lujo is also a tour ofthe best gastronomy of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, territories with a renowned culinary tradition.
The exquisite à la carte breakfast is complemented by the personalised service of our waiters. Local specialities are present throughout the trip, making every day start differently and original also at the table.
